Gourd nursery is done in mid-January for early sowing of Zaid.

Suitable Climate and Temperature

Bottle gourd requires a hot and humid temperature for cultivation. Therefore, it is sown during the summer and rainy season. It is unable to tolerate frost. Its cultivation is done in different places according to different seasons, but its yield is suitable in areas like arid and semi-arid. In the cultivation of gourd, the temperature of around 30 degrees is quite good. Preparing Plants 

You can prepare its plants in a nursery and plant them directly in the field for a quick and high gourd yield. Plants are ready about 20 to 25 days before transplanting in the area. For this, prepare a nursery on one side of the prepared field. Next, prepare the beds by making a good mixture of manure and soil.

Plant gourd seeds about 4 cm by applying water to these prepared beds. Spread a thin layer of soil after sown at a depth of and use light irrigation. After about 20 to 25 days, the saplings are ready for planting in the field. Apart from this, you can also prepare its plants in plastic or fibreglass. Irrigation Requirement

Irrigation of gourd cultivation depends on the season of its harvest. If you have cultivated it for the Zaid season, then irrigate the crop before the first irrigation before transplanting. After this, irrigation should be done within 4 to 5 days. There is no need to rinse the field in the Kharif season of the gourd. But if there is no rain, irrigation is required for 10 to 15 days.

However, for the Rabi season of gourd, irrigation should be given to maintain moisture in its plants and when fruits start forming on the plants. Fertilizer

For the correct fertilizer quantity in the cultivation of gourd, based on the field’s soil test, decide the right amount of fertilizer in its cultivation. In its cultivation, while preparing the first field, 200 to 250 quintals of old cow dung should be mixed well in the soil at the rate per hectare. After this, 50 kg nitrogen, 35 kg phosphorus and 30 kg potash can be given for chemical fertilizer. Half of the nitrogen and total dose of phosphorus and potash should be given during field preparation. Half of the remaining nitrogen should be presented at the stage of 4 to 5 leaves and the remaining half before flowering.
