How to Find Out What Shopify Theme a Website Is Using

A Shopify store’s appearance and feel are equally important to its functionality and for user experience too. That’s why choosing a one-of-a-kind, and visually appealing Shopify theme should be the priority for any retailer. Looking at what other online stores have chosen as themes is one way to do so. Assume you’ve come across a theme that appeals to you. Where do we go from here? How do you figure out what it’s called so you can get it from the Shopify theme store?

Three practical approaches to this task are outlined below.

You’ve chosen Shopify as your e-commerce platform and are ready to launch your online store. This system is simple to set up and operate for anyone with a basic understanding of technology.

It comes with a slew of built-in features and extensions to make any business task easier. Dropshipping, using social media, SEO, advertising, reporting and analytics, customer service, and managing products and inventory are just a few examples.

All of this functionality, however, will be rendered useless if your store is unappealing and uninteresting. The good news is that Shopify also assists you in customizing the look of your e-commerce site.

It currently has over 80 customizable themes for merchants of various wallet sizes and preferences. You can also hire a professional Shopify web development company to create an actual one-of-a-kind theme for your website.

A beginner’s head would spin with all of this variety. It can be challenging to find a suitable theme for your niche on Shopify. There is a different way of doing things. Why not spend some time looking through other websites that sell similar products to yours?

You’ll benefit from this in several ways.

  • You can make a list of the stores you’d like to copy (with modifications).
  • You’ll be able to tell which designs don’t suit you.
  • You can quickly figure out how much a theme costs (if it isn’t free) and whether or not you can afford it for your company.
  • Enter inurl:.myshopify.com into the address bar or use this site, for example, to see if Shopify powers a store. After you’ve found a theme you like, you’ll need to give it a name. As a result, you’ll be able to find the theme you’re looking for in a fraction of a second among the options provided by the vendor.

So, how do you figure out which Shopify theme is being used on a given website? It’s nothing more than a piece of cake. Implement one of the three methods outlined below.

What Shopify Theme Is In Use?

#1: The Longest Route — Search the Site’s Source Code for the Name

Looking under the hood of a website is the first technique we suggest. To put it another way, you’ll have to fiddle with the page source. However, don’t be alarmed. There’s no need to know how to code or anything. All you have to do is look for a specific phrase within the site’s internal structure.

So, by looking at a website’s source code, you can figure out what Shopify theme it’s using:

  • Fill in the address or search box with the query inurl:.myshopify.com. This is a unique Google operator for narrowing down search results. A list of Shopify-enabled websites will appear.
  • Go to the web address.
  • Bring up a page with the site’s source code by pressing Ctrl + U in Firefox or Chrome or CMD + OPT + U in Safari.
  • Press Ctrl + F in Firefox or Chrome, or CMD + F in Safari to bring up the search box.

Shopify.theme is what you’re looking for. This will draw attention to the specific location on the page where these words appear. There will be three lines that stand out.

“Name” appears in the first one. The name of the Shopify theme that the website is using is what follows the colon. “Boundless” is the example we’re using.

The name of the current Shopify theme is displayed in the Shopify.name variable.

Search for Boundless in the Shopify theme store. The result of this query will be returned.

Ready-Made vs. Custom Themes

As previously stated, many businesses prefer to hire a professional Shopify Plus development company to create an exceptional theme that will outperform the competition. A custom theme’s source code description differs slightly from that of a Shopify brand store theme.

Find the theme store id property in step #5 above in the first line. You can find this theme on the Shopify brand store if there is a number after the colon.

If the colon is followed by the word null, the theme is custom-made and unavailable on the Shopify marketplace. As an illustration, consider the following: This is a Shopify theme that is null.

#2: The Golden Mean — Install an Add-On

Consider installing an extension like Shopify theme detector if you’re a die-hard Google Chrome user. Do the following once you’ve added it to your browser:

  • Go to the website you’d like to investigate.
  • In the top right corner, select the extension icon.
  • Choose Shopify Theme Detector from the drop-down menu. The add-on displays the theme’s name.

#3: Easiest Method — Use Online Specialized Tools

There’s an even more straightforward way to figure out which Shopify theme is currently in use. All you’ll need is a website that specializes in locating Shopify themes. Type in the search term “Shopify theme detector” in the search box. You’ll be presented with a variety of options.

This one, for instance, can be used. In the Website URL box, paste the web address of the Shopify site you like, then click the Detect Theme button. The name of the theme will be returned right away. You can also determine whether it is custom or ready-made without exerting any additional effort.

Lastly

You can choose from several pre-made Shopify themes. However, merchants who are just getting started often struggle to find a suitable theme for their niche. Reviewing similar online stores, shortlisting the one with the best-looking theme, and then downloading it from the official brand store is one way to solve this problem.
