How to Grow Chervil Herb in India – Complete Guidelines

Chervil is a delicate herb with a delicate myrrh-like aroma. Use fresh, finely divided leaves in salads and a flavor enhancer for fish, chicken, and egg dishes. Dried chervil leaves are a component of cured herbs, a French culinary staple that includes parsley, chives, and tarragon. We can use chervil in place of parsley.   1. Best Locations

Chervil grows best in cool temperatures. You should choose the place where there is no effect of direct sunlight.

  1. Soil Preparation

Plant chervil in humus-rich, well-drained soil. Before sowing, apply old manure to the sown beds. Cheryl prefers a soil pH of 6.0 to 6.7.

  1. Starting Seeds Indoors

You can start sowing the chervil seeds a few weeks before the end of expected frost in spring. Start chervils in individual containers under fluorescent lights for transplanting after the last frost in spring. Use separate pots to avoid disturbing the tap root at the time of transplant. (The plant may bloom prematurely if the root is damaged.) Cherry seed does not need to be covered for germination. Germination takes 7 to 14 days.

  1. Watering

Add 4-inch-deep mulch around the plants to keep the roots cool in hot areas. Keep mulch away from the base of plants, so they are not damaged by crown rot and earwigs.

Cover chervil seeds and young plants with a floating row cover to prevent birds and rabbits from eating the young plants. Later in the season, cut flower stalks to prolong growth. When plants reach 6 inches tall or taller, harvest chervil leaves as needed about 6 to 8 weeks after sowing. Cherry leaves will be most flavorful if harvested before the plant blooms. The leaves are most delicious when harvested in cool climates. Regular harvesting of leaves will prevent the plant from flowering too soon. Cut off the base of the chervil leaves with scissors or a sharp knife. Then, pinch off flower stalks to extend the harvest period.
