Lawyers are required to maintain a record of their CPD activities. For example, in a case involving a court of law, solicitors must submit evidence of their participation in legal CPD activities. They can print out a copy of their MyCPD page to demonstrate that they are meeting the requirements of the nsw law society cpd points scheme. And for those who need to keep track of their CPD activities, a lawCPD certificate is available online.

Another example of a case where lawyers have to deal with complex disputes is a case involving an employee’s rights. A recent case, Bank of Western Australia Limited v Tannous, led by M B J Lee SC, involved a statutory derivative action. This case also dealt with forum non conveniens and the application of Mareva orders. The issue in question is whether a lawyer has the power to sue their employer without first consulting a supervisory authority.

Another case that the NSW Bar Association has released is the landmark judgment in Re Civilian Casualty Court Martial. This case was the first to prosecute a corporation for negligence or wrongful conduct. The other two cases were the first-ever judicial reviews arising out of a chain of responsibility.

David Turner was called to the New South Wales Bar in 1999. He has also been a member of the Australian Army since 1997, where he currently holds the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
