What is the definition of physical health, and does good health naturally imply that everything is natural?

Let’s start with a general definition of excellent health. “Health is a condition of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, not only the absence of disease or infirmity,” according to the WHO (World Health Organization) definition, which dates from 1948. Assuming that this is correct, what is the concept of physical health, and does excellent health naturally imply that “everything natural” is good, particularly in the context of food?What does it mean to be physically healthy?

Is there such a thing?

Is it acceptable to claim that just because everything is working as it should in the absence of sickness or infirmity (weakness or ailment), we’re not necessarily in good physical health, based on the WHO health definition as it applies to physical health? I also feel that our physical health is primarily determined by our own health plans. To put it another way, it all depends on how well we look for ourselves on a regular basis. This includes the following:

  • Habits of eating
  • Habits of exercise, or the lack thereof
  • Sleeping patterns
  • Spiritual practices
  • Habits of daily life

Without appearing to be a pundit, expert, or zealot on any of the above, or that I am personally the definition of physical health, spiritual health, or anything else that resembles the definition of good health, in a nutshell, what I’m saying is that all of the bullet points have an impact on our physical health.

It’s all about staying healthy.

The following is a definition of health from one dictionary:

“The state of a person’s body or mind in terms of soundness and vigor: good health; poor health.”

“The greatest wealth is health,” wrote the ancient Roman poet Virgil.

I couldn’t agree with you more, but I’m concerned about the over-emphasis on physical health, as if it were mutually exclusive from other facets of health. I feel that good health entails:

  • Physical
  • Mental
  • Emotional
  • Spiritual
  • Financial

The “soundness and vigor” with which we pursue and maintain these qualities have an impact on all of them, both directly and indirectly. Furthermore, I find it concerning that the term “wealth” is so heavily connected with money and financial wealth. That isn’t to suggest that I don’t believe in the importance of physical and financial well-being. They’re both important parts of general wellness.

One of the largest marketing ploys ever is the “all-natural” phenomenon, especially when it comes to food. It’s a joke if it’s not a fraud.

It’s meaningless!

There is a significant distinction between organic and all-natural products. Don’t mix the two up, and don’t trust the misinformation that causes you to believe they’re the same thing. They aren’t. Organic is heavily regulated, at least in terms of food. It’s actually significant. Keep in mind, though, that just because something is organic doesn’t imply it’s healthy. All-natural can refer to a wide range of things. There are no regulations in place for the food we eat. It’s a really deceptive tag.
